About

Cristiana Oliveira is an acclaimed Portuguese soprano, renowned for her powerful interpretations of Verdi and Puccini heroines. She has brought to life some of opera’s most demanding roles, including Aida, Leonora, Luisa Miller, Leonora di Vargas, and Alice Ford from Verdi’s works; Tosca and Cio-Cio-San from Puccini’s; and Maddalena in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier.

She has performed at many  prestigious opera houses, including the Cologne Opera, Felsenreitschule Salzburg, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Innsbruck Opera, Teatro Massimo Bellini, Teatro Real, Bühnen Bern, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Staatstheater Braunschweig Arena, and the Finnish National Opera, among others.

In 2025/2026 Season Cristiana will make her debut as Desdemona and return as Tosca at Staatstheater Hannover. She will also appear in a new production of Madama Butterfly in Innsbruck, and is scheduled to sing Leonora in Il Trovatore and Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera.


In her 2024/2025 season, stands out Leonora (Il Trovatore) at the Staatstheater Braunschweig open-air arena, her debut as Alice Ford with the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck, and the Aida at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.

Highlights of the 2023/2024 season included Leonora in Il Trovatore at the São Carlos National Theatre, Aida at the Felsenreitschule in Salzburg, and Tosca at both Bühnen Bern Opera House and Oper Köln. She also made her debut with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie.

In 2022/2023, she debuted as Aida at the Staatstheater Braunschweig arena festival, returned as Leonora at Staatstheater Wiesbaden, and made her Tosca debut at the Coliseu do Porto. She also made her debut at Teatro Real de Madrid with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and her debut as Luisa Miller at  Oper Köln.


From past seasons is worth noting her engagements with Staatstheater Braunschweig and Staatstheater Wiesbaden for major roles including Cio-Cio-San and Leonora (Il Trovatore) and her debut at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, where she portrayed Magda in La Rondine and Maddalena in Andrea Chénier by invitation from Maestro Gianluigi Gelmetti.

She was Violetta in La Traviata in Oporto Coliseu, Sallavinera Music Festival in Barcelona and at the Millennium Forum in Northern Ireland.

She debuted as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly at the Teatro José Lúcio da Silva in Leiria, Portugal, followed by Leonora in La forza del destino at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon. She also performed Musetta in La Bohème in Helsinki.

Earlier Engagements include Micaëla in Carmen in Porto, Marie in La fille du régiment, and Madame Cortese in Il viaggio a Reims in Lisbon.

Concerts

Cristiana Oliveira is also an accomplished concert soloist. Her repertoire includes Verdi’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, Dvořák’s Requiem and Stabat Mater, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2. She has appeared several times as a soloist with the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa at the Festival ao Largo and Dias da Música festival at both the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos and the Centro Cultural de Belém—performances broadcast live on Portuguese National Television.

Education & Awards

Cristiana began her musical training in violin and piano before pursuing voice. She graduated from ESMAE in the class of the Baritone José de Oliveira Lopes and under the Soprano  Palmira Troufa, alongside studying in Italy with the soprano Gabriella Morigi in Cesena and the Vocal Coach Vittorio Rosetta in Milan: Later trained at the New York Opera Studio, under Nico Castel debuting as Jaroslavna (Prince Igor), and at the Barcelona Opera Studio, performing Violetta Valéry (La Traviata).

She is the recipient of the Special Prize at the Maria Malibran International Vocal Competition in Milan and First Prize at the 14th Estoril International Interpretation Competition.
